5 community leaders given nod to join CMH Board of Governors

Cambridge, ON (April 28, 2010) – Cambridge Memorial Hospital today announced the appointment of five community leaders who will join the ranks of its Board of Governors.

Effective immediately, Supervisor Murray Martin said the new governors will hold various terms of office on the 15-member board of professional volunteers and CMH leaders.

The new members of the CMH Board are:

  • Donald McIntyre, Cambridge
  • Christopher Brown, Ayr
  • Sherry Peister, Kitchener
  • Dave Arjune, Kitchener
  • Josephine McMurray, Waterloo

Currently, there are six representatives of the residential and business community within Waterloo Region and four ex-officio board members. When the hospital’s annual general meeting is held June 23, the terms for two board members – Vice Chair Frank Voss and Governor Bob Cunningham – will have expired.

The new members appointed today join the following:
  • Chuck Phillips, Chair
  • Robert Blowes, Member
  • Angelo Loberto, Member
  • Don Pavey, Member
  • Dr. Michael Lawrie, Interim Chief of Staff
  • Dr. Iqbal Biswas, President, Medical and Professional Staff Association
  • Dr. Glenn Martin, Vice-President, Medical and Professional Staff Association
  • Patrick Gaskin, Acting President & CEO

“This is an exciting time for everyone involved in the life of Cambridge Memorial Hospital,” Mr. Martin said of the latest organizational changes at the hospital. “We’ve done a great deal to wrestle with the financial challenges facing CMH and now we need to build on the governance structure and look to the future with a new strategic plan.”

In January, Mr. Martin – who assumed the role of Supervisor in September 2009 – announced the appointment of Chuck Phillips as Chair of the CMH Board of Governors.

“I want to thank the work of the board members, particularly the Nominating & Governance Committee, for presenting a terrific group of community leaders interested in serving the needs of this hospital and this community.”

Mr. Martin said more than 30 community leaders applied for a position on the Board and the selection of candidates was an exhaustive process.

“I’m confident this skill-based board will meet the challenges facing Cambridge Memorial Hospital and will work collaboratively with healthcare partners in the Waterloo Region to build a system that delivers exceptional and sustainable care,” Mr. Martin said.
