  Sleep Clinic opens at CMH

On July 2, 2012, a new 3-bed sleep assessment facility and ambulatory clinic opened at Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) to address a need and enhance the quality of care it offers to the community. The lab will provide a number of services, including overnight sleep studies to evaluate sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnias and other neurological disorders affecting sleep.  At first, the sleep lab will be open for four (4) nights a week, 8:00 pm to 7:00 am and is expected to ramp up to 7 nights a week later in the year.

CMH is partnering with the Sleep Disorders Clinic (SDC) to offer this service. The SDC currently operates two independent, accredited sleep clinics in Hamilton and St. Catharines. The SDC offers the latest and most innovative sleep service using the most up-to-date equipment. It will provide the clinical staffing and interpretation will be done by highly trained sleep physicians, including Dr. Raymond Gottschalk. Dr. Gottschalk is a renowned physician of sleep medicine and has co-authored the last two editions (2005 and 2011) of the Guidelines for Sleep Medicine Clinics for the IHF program and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). He is also an assessor for the CPSO IHF sleep medicine clinics. Dr. Gottschalk is on staff as an assistant professor of medicine at Hamilton Health Science Corporation.
