Cambridge Memorial Hospital will be holding an information session for people considering becoming volunteers in our HELP (Hospital Elder Life Program) in the spring. The date is Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 3:00-4:00 in Room 3A-Meeting Room 5.
Goals of HELP are:
- Help patients maintain cognitive and physical functioning throughout hospitalization
- To allow patients to be discharged from the hospital as independent as possible
- To assist with the transition from the hospital to the community
- To prevent unplanned readmission to the hospital
The HELP program is provided entirely to the patient by volunteers under the direction of an Elder Life Specialist as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals. The role of the volunteer is a crucial central role by carrying out program interventions directly at the bedside. Volunteers are not “frosting on the cake”, but rather they are the cake. This program gives volunteers a level of patient contact that is unique amongst hospital programs.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with this hands on and interactive program that assists senior’s earlier discharges and less re-admissions, please join us. To reserve a space at the information session, please contact Theresa Milani-Elder Life Specialist at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 519-621-2333 ext. 1525.
This is a very rewarding volunteer service where both the volunteer and patient benefit!
