February 11, 2014 (Cambridge) – Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) is hosting a blood donation drive on Friday, February 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. It just so happens that CMH president and CEO Patrick Gaskin will be rolling up his sleeve for the 100th time to donate blood.
“This is something I do simply because I know too well blood is needed, especially in a hospital. Blood and blood products are used in many lifesaving treatments from trauma surgery to cancer care. It really costs nothing to donate and it gives back so much,” says Gaskin.
Patrick began donating nearly 30 years ago while in school. It started as a family affair, donating blood with his brothers Howard and Mark. Howard celebrated his 100th donation in 2012, while Mark is still a few donations short of that milestone. Both plan to be there to support their brother Patrick on Friday.
“If my 100th donation motivates someone to make an appointment with Canadian Blood Service, then I’ve accomplished my goal,” says Gaskin. Because CMH is sponsoring the blood donation drive, anyone in the community who donates blood at the hospital that day will get a free parking voucher.
