CMH is one of 19 hospitals that achieved a 100% conversion rate

This media release was sewnt out by the Trillium Gift of Life Network on October 10. CMH is one of 19 hospitals that achieved a 100% conversion rate. This means that all potential organ donors went on to donate organs. 



TORONTO – Today Trillium Gift of Life Network released new data on hospital donation performance, a practice that has contributed to increases in organ and tissue donation in Ontario. Hospital donation performance is measured by two rates: routine notification and conversion.

Routine notification is the rate at which hospitals notify Trillium Gift of Life Network when there may be potential for organ and/or tissue donation. During the first quarter of 2017/18 (April 1 – June 30, 2017) Ontario hospitals achieved a 95 per cent routine notification rate.

Eight out of 69 hospitals attained a 100 per cent routine notification rate, including:

  • Chatham-Kent Health Alliance
  • Collingwood General & Marine Hospital
  • Grey Bruce Health Services
  • Kirkland and District Hospital
  • Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare
  • Pembroke Regional Hospital
  • St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake
  • University of Ottawa Heart Institute

During the same reporting period, Ontario hospitals achieved a 59 per cent conversion rate: the percentage of potential organs donors that went on to become actual organ donors. Nineteen out of 55 hospitals achieved a 100 per cent conversion rate, including:

  • Grand River Hospital
  • Grey Bruce Health Sciences
  • Halton Healthcare Services
  • Health Sciences North
  • Huron Perth Health Alliance
  • Kingston Health Sciences Centre
  • Lakeridge Health
  • Michael Garron Hospital
  • Niagara Health System
  • North Bay Regional Health Centre
  • Queensway Carleton Hospital
  • Sault Area Hospital
  • St. Mary’s General Hospital
  • St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital
  • The Hospital for Sick Children
  • University of Ottawa Heart Institute
  • Windsor Regional Hospital
