Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, declared a COVID-19 outbreak linked to Wing B, Level 4, Medicine B Unit on February 7. This outbreak is retrospectively tied to an event on January 25. The event occurred when a patient with community acquired COVID transmitted the infection to another patient. This patient has since been discharged. One staff became symptomatic last week and was confirmed COVID positive yesterday (Feb. 7). This person was traced to the Medicine B patient room. No new transmission has occurred since January 25.
Cleaning and disinfection of the environment has been enhanced in this area, and precautions have been implemented. This includes swabbing of staff and patients on Med B as a precaution. The Outbreak will be declared over when no transmission has occurred for 14 days.
