Cambridge, Ontario – Cambridge Memorial, Grand River and Guelph General Hospitals are aware there is a world-wide shortage of epidural supplies. These are products that we use to support patients during childbirth.
Currently, Waterloo Region hospitals still have these supplies in stock. With the news of the shortage we are working together across Waterloo Region, and then with partners provincially to equitably conserve and share resources, and to develop a plan to manage next steps. At this time, we are investigating the procurement of substitute options, should they be needed and will share more information and resources as plans progress.
There are many ways that we can support patients to manage their pain during childbirth. Community members with questions can speak with their health care providers and care teams, and check the Grand River, Cambridge Memorial or Guelph General hospital websites for updates.
