Inpatient Surgery Unit outbreak declared over

Friday, February 25, 2022

Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, has declared an end to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Inpatient Surgery Unit (Wing B, level 3). The outbreak was first declared on February 8, 2022 and there has not been a new case of COVID-19 in that unit for the past 10 days.

In total, five patients and six staff were identified as having healthcare acquired infections

Enhanced cleaning measures, safety audits and recently added staff-only spaces for breaks remain in place. Visitor restrictions will begin to ease the week of February 28 as we now only have one outbreak to manage. Visitors will be required to book on-line or by telephone and be double vaccinated to visit patients in hospital.

The Medicine B Unit COVID-19 outbreak remains active. At this time, 24 patients and six staff were identified as having healthcare acquired infections. First declared on January 20, this outbreak may be over on March 2 if no more infections are found.
