Cambridge, Ontario – Cambridge Memorial Hospital experienced a disruption in the
reprocessing of our operating room instruments today. As a result, 17 patient surgeries
were cancelled. We are working to identify and rectify the root cause. At this time, the
hospital has established an arrangement with an external reprocessing vendor to mitigate
further disruptions to our surgical services. It is anticipated that all upcoming surgeries will
proceed. The hospital is working to prioritize and reschedule the 17 patients who were
impacted by this disruption. “Our focus on patient safety must never be compromised”
said Stephanie Pearsall, vice president clinical services and chief nursing executive
Cambridge Memorial Hospital. “To that end we apologize for the significant
inconvenience we caused patients today and will work with the surgeons’ offices to
reschedule their care in a timely manner,” added Pearsall.
