Cambridge, Ontario – Cambridge Memorial Hospital continues to experience a
disruption in the reprocessing of our operating room instruments. As a result, 17 elective
surgeries were cancelled today and we are cancelling 25 elective surgeries Thursday
September 14. We have maintained a supply of instruments to ensure that we can
complete priority surgical cases. Work continues with a third party vendor to stabilize the
reprocessing of our instruments. We will reassess tomorrow our ability to resume normal
surgical operations for Friday September 15.
The hospital is committed to prioritizing and rescheduling the patients who were impacted
by this disruption. “Patients have been waiting for these important scheduled surgeries
and our sincere apologies are extended to them for this disruption,” said Stephanie
Pearsall, vice president clinical services and chief nursing executive Cambridge Memorial
Hospital. “I want our patients and community to know that our facilities and surgical teams
are working diligently to uncover the cause of this situation and to rectify it as soon as
possible. We will keep the community informed as we learn more” added Pearsall.
