Cambridge, Ontario – Media are invited to attend a special cheque presentation to Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 6, 2014, in support of the hospital’s capital redevelopment project and expansion.

When the Health Services Restructuring Commission tabled its report for Waterloo Region, the way was open to major improvements in hospital care in Waterloo Region. Cancer care, mental health facilities, the later addition of cardiac care, and a whole host of other improvements were planned for the Region.

“Waterloo Region was one of the first municipalities in Ontario to make a commitment to help fund renovated and expanded hospital facilities,” said Regional Chair Ken Seiling. “I am proud that the Region took this first step to ensure better health care in the Region and in Cambridge.”

A pledge by the Region set the stage for the community’s One Voice, One Vision Campaign which went on to raise in excess of $43 million in community donations.
Over $282 million was invested in improving our local hospitals according to the plan, and the Region provided $37 million dollars shared among all three.

Both St. Mary’s and Grand River have finished their capital projects. CMH is now poised, with our taxpayer’s generous contribution of $7.8 million, to take that final step to completing its transformation.

“On behalf of our staff, physicians and volunteers, I would like to thank the Region’s taxpayers for their investment in healthcare. We are thrilled that the construction of the CMH expansion will start in a few short months. Once constructed, Cambridge, North Dumfries and the Waterloo Region will have access to a bright, modern facility, with expanded emergency, diagnostic and operating room services, more inpatient acute, critical care and rehabilitation beds, an expanded mental health program to meet our growing communities’ acute care needs, ” says Patrick Gaskin, President and CEO of Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
