Rehabilitation Unit outbreak declared over

Tuesday, February 22, 2022

Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in consultation with the Region of Waterloo Public Health, has declared an end to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Rehabilitation Unit (Wing B, level 3). This outbreak was first declared on February 6, 2022 and there has not been a new case of COVID-19 in that unit for the past 10 days.

In total, eight patients and two staff were identified as having healthcare acquired infections while in hospital.

Enhanced cleaning measures, safety audits and recently added staff-only spaces for breaks remain in place. Visitor restrictions continue to remain 100% virtual. This will be re-evaluated as we come out of outbreak in the other two outbreak units and high inpatient volumes begin to ease.

Current outbreaks:

Inpatient Surgery Unit (declared Feb. 8)

  • Five (5) patients and six (6) staff were identified as having a healthcare acquired infection (HAI).
  • This outbreak may be declared over on February 25 if no new cases are found.

Medicine B (declared Jan. 20)

  • Twenty-three (23) patients and six (6) staff have been infected (HAI) during this COVID-19 outbreak
  • The earliest possible end date is Feb. 27 if no more infections are found.
