Visiting Hours & Information

Visiting a Patient

A visit can have a positive effect on a patient's well being. Family and friends are welcome to provide support and company to their loved ones while they are in hospital. To ask where a patient is located or for their phone extension, please call Information Desk in the Main Lobby at ext. 2110 or call Switchboard at ext. '0'. Click to see the hospital's floor plan. If you are arriving by car, view our parking page to help you prepare for your visit. All visitors must follow infection control precautions at all times.

Visiting Hours

Family and friends are welcome to visit their loved ones during the day and evening. CMH recognizes that on occasion, there may be a need to visit beyond these times. If you wish to visit outside of this visiting time, please speak with a member of your loved one's care team. Requests are considered on a case by case basis.

NEW: Visiting a Patient as a Care Partner

Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) is committed to enhancing the patient experience by fostering an environment and culture that embraces patient and family centred care. To support this commitment, patients may identify individual(s) whom they view as their care partners. Care partners are able to visit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with few exceptions.

If visiting hours or the number of visitors need to be temporarily adjusted (e.g., infection control precautions), this will be communicated to the patient and care partner in a collaborative manner by a member of the care team. Children who require supervision must be accompanied by an adult other than the patient.

Visiting is based on the condition of the patient, their care needs and expressed wishes of each patient. The hours between 2000 and 0600h (8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.) are considered quiet time.

What is the difference between a care partner and a visitor?
Care Partner – is anyone whom the patient (or substitute decision maker) determines is significant to their well-being, and whose presence would enhance their stay at the hospital and contribute positively to their overall healing process.

Visitor – is a guest of the patient or family who wants to provide well wishes and social connection.

Visiting the Birthing Unit

The only children allowed to visit obstetrics are brothers and sisters of the baby.

Visitor Guidelines

The following are general guidelines, which may be changed under special circumstances. There may be other visitor guidelines that are unique to different clinical areas (i.e., Oncology, Women’s and Children’s Health, Critical Care). The care team will explain these to visitors. In the event of an outbreak, visitor restrictions may be put into place to help protect you and our patients.

  • Only two visitors are to be with a patient at any one time.
  • Visitors under the age of 13 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave a patient's room to facilitate care.
  • Wash your hands using the wall mounted hand sanitizers, especially before entering and leaving a patient’s room. Washing your hands is the most important and most effective way to control the spread of infection in hospital.
