Operating Room Services

About This Program

The Surgical Services Program at Cambridge Memorial Hospital provides a wide range of surgical options to residents of Cambridge and North Dumfries. Elective surgeries are usually performed Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Urgent/emergent surgery can be performed at any time of the day or night, depending on the needs of our patients.

Services

General Surgery

General surgeons on staff at Cambridge Memorial perform a wide range of surgeries. Many types of surgeries are now done using laparoscopes – this procedure uses a telescope and small incision. This means faster recovery from surgery. Most gall bladder removals are performed using this method. Some other common surgeries performed include: hernia repairs and bowel surgery.

Dental Surgery

Dental surgeons perform surgery on the mouth and/or teeth. Some of the more common procedures they would perform include: removal of multiple teeth, jaw bone re-alignment, and repair of jaw fractures.

Ear, Nose and Throat

The ear, nose and throat specialist performs a variety of surgeries on the ear, nose and throat of both adults and children. Some of the more common procedures are: removal of tonsils and adenoids, placement of tubes in children’s ears, nasal endoscopic (nose), and sinus surgery.

Gynaecology

The gynecology specialists on staff perform surgeries such as: hysterectomy, endometrial ablation, operative laparoscopy, and tubal sterilization. Obstetrical procedures such as Caesarian Sections (C-sections) are also performed.

Ophthalmology

Ophthalmic surgeries involve the eyes and surrounding tissues. Some examples of surgeries performed by these specialists include: removal of cataracts, procedures for glaucoma, and eye surgery for children.

Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgery includes surgeries involving the joints, bones and tissues that connect these. Our orthopedic surgeons routinely perform total joint replacements such as hips, knees, and shoulders. Many other procedures are performed arthroscopically – using a telescope to look into the joint, which also means faster recovery times.

Plastics

Plastic surgeries performed include: skin cancer surgery, hand surgery, breast reduction and reconstruction, and cosmetic surgery.

Urology

Urology surgery involves the bladder and kidneys. Examples of some of the procedures that the urologist may perform include: examining the bladder using a scope, and removal of kidney stones.
