From the challenges life throws our way to the least expected—like medical emergencies—a warm meal has brought comfort to people for generations. While it may not fix all the world’s problems, it can have a positive impact.
Introducing Meals on Wheels! This program—already well integrated into Waterloo Region—has arrived at Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH).
“Having Meals on Wheels as part of safe discharges for patients will make a world of difference – particularly for patients discharged on or right before the weekend or after hours,” shares Andrea Brissette, Director of Medical Programs and lead on CMH’s recent partnership with Meals on Wheels through Community Care Concepts.
This support is especially valuable for patients who’ve had long hospital stays and can’t immediately restock their groceries or prepare meals.
“It buys them time,” agreed supervising staff from Medicine B2, “enabling patients to have meals for the weekend before they’re able to connect with Meals on Wheels on Monday, or receive support from a loved one for shopping or meal prep.”
The partnership with Community Care Concepts and their support for Meals on Wheels brings CMH’s values to life—ensuring patients leave the hospital with not just a discharge plan, but real-world supports that help them thrive beyond our doors.
These frozen meals will do more than warm bellies: they are a seamless bridge between hospital care and community connection so patients can recover where they’re most comfortable—at home.
“I was discharged from hospital after a medical emergency kept me overnight,” shared one patient who asked not to be named, “Meals on Wheels from CMH helped me until my family could take me to the store.”
Whether it’s transitioning from hospital to home or a couple frozen meals to help you get settled, talk to your care team about your options.
At CMH, our Patient Declaration of Values asks us to work with patients every step of the way—including the journey home. A warm meal may be small, but it’s a mighty start.
