Inpatient Care
Inpatient care refers to patients admitted to the hospital to stay overnight, whether briefly or for an extended period of time. This allows clinicians to monitor patients more closely. Examples of instances where inpatient care may be needed include surgery, serious illness, child birth, rehabilitation for injuries and acute psychiatric illness.
Intensive Care Unit
Seriously ill patients requiring life support and close monitoring are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The ICU is staffed by highly trained clinicians specializing in critical care. Conditions that may need critical care include complex and emergent surgeries, septic shock and other life threatening illnesses, injuries and medical complications.
