Who We Are

Mental Health and Addictions Program at Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) is located at 700 Coronation Blvd in Cambridge, Ontario. We serve residents of Cambridge and North Dumfries and provide trauma informed and recovery oriented care to individuals with mental health and addictions.

We work in partnership with community agencies, primary care providers, schools, and social service agencies. We provide time limited intensive services to individuals of all ages living with complex, moderate to severe acute mental illnesses and addictions. Our Services are age specific and based on pre-determined criteria and referral process

Services

Psychiatric Assessment and Admission Nurse (PAAN)

 Our Psychiatric Assessment and Admission Nurse is a 24 hours, seven days/week service offered in Emergency Department by skilled and experienced Mental Health Registered Nurses. PAAN offers assessment, crisis management and disposition in consultation with emergency room doctors, psychiatrists, and other healthcare partners.

The wait times in the emergency department to see a PAAN will vary based on your triage assessment and department acuity.

Mental Health Inpatient Unit

Inpatient adult mental health functions in a multidisciplinary team environment and consist of 25 beds for short term admission and stabilization of acutely ill individuals. Individuals are admitted through Emergency Department, Day Hospital, Outpatient Services and other community hospitals. We admit individuals who are 18 years of age and older for assessment, stabilization and acute, short term treatment.

The inpatient mental health unit is located in WIng A, level 3. Please call 519-621-2330 extension 5210 to speak with a nursing staff.

Mental Health Day Hospital

The Day Hospital is an intensive and structured 6-week day program. Patients are to attend 4-5 days per week. Day Hospital clients are referred through Psychiatric Assessment and Admission Nurse (PAAN), Inpatient Mental Health and the Community Outpatient Mental Health Clinic.

Clients in the Day Hospital have individualized treatment plans developed in collaboration with their multidisciplinary team. Day Hospital clients can access group and individual psychotherapy as established in their plan of care.  Day Hospital clients are offered services in two streams; Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) informed and Mood Management.

Mental Health Inpatient Unit and Day Hospital Locations

Both units are located in Wing A, level 3. Enter the Main Entrance and proceed to the public elevator. Take the elevator to Level 3 and turn right - walk to the hallway. In front of you will be the Inpatient Mental Health Unit and to your left, the Day Hospital. Please note the Inpatient Mental Health Unit is secured and you will need to speak with staff to gain access.

Community Outpatient Mental Health Clinic

Community Outpatient Mental Health Clinic offers time limited psychiatric support to children and adults living with severe and persistant mental illnesses.

The Adult Community Outpatient Mental Health Clinic offers a variety of services which includes individual therapy, group therapy, psychiatric consultation, coordination with community care partners, injection and medication management.

Group Therapy includes;

  • Mindfulness group for mood and anxiety
  • Concurrent Disorders
  • Chain Analysis – Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Trauma Group – Emotional Resilience
  • Coping with crisis
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills

Community Outpatient Mental Health Clinic Location

Click to see map: Level 1 and 2 will lead you to Outpatient Mental Health.

If you enter at the Ambulatory Care entrance on Level 1, turn left, take elevators to Level 2, turn right and go into Community Outpatient Mental Health Clinic located in wing D. If you enter using the Main Entrance ago through the Main Lobby towards the Public Elevators. Go past the elvators and turn right. At the end of the hall is the entrance to Wing B. Follow the blue line until you get to the green line - you will pass two more sets of elevators. At the end of the green line is the last set of elevators. Take the elevators to Level 2, turn right and go into Community Outpatient Mental Health Clinic.

What I Need to Know

Please bring any personal assistive devices that you require for your appointment. For example, any communication or mobility device you many need like a walker, hearing aid, etc.

Kindly note that CMH has a no scent policy.  Kindly refrain from using or wearing perfumes, scented deodorants and scented products before coming to hospital.

Referral Process

Child and Family: Child & Family team provides support to individuals 5 to 18 years of age and their parents. Child and Family team at CMH receives referrals directly from family physicians or pediatricians.  CMH is not accepting referrals directly from the community for counselling services. The pediatric psychiatrist will see the child and determine if other resources are required. Those resources can include individual or family counselling as well as group therapy.   

Adult: Community Outpatient Mental Health clinic supports adults 18 years of age and older. The clinic receives physician referrals via Here24 Seven (centralized intake through Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) for mental health and psychiatry services), Emergency Department, Day Hospital and Inpatient Mental Health. The Adult Community Mental Health Clinic also does medication management through our injection clinic.

Specialized Geriatric Mental Health Services: Geriatric Mental Health Services receives referrals via Specialized Geriatric Services Centralized Intake located at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph.These referrals will be reviewed by the Geriatric Mental Health team located at the Langs Hub. Family Physicians can fax their referrals to Intake at Fax # 1-888-205-1491 or can reach them directly by calling 1-855-849-6228. Services are primarily offered in community, where the senior lives (own home, retirement home, Long Term Care) and include clinical comprehensive geriatric assessment including consultation and short term follow-up and supports to patients and caregivers.
